Fostering healthy, educated, safe, culturally inclusive and successful communities
Overview Caring Communities were developed under the auspices of the Leaders Roundtable in 1991. Caring Communities are voluntary networks that mutually support collaborative activities and information sharing. Caring Community activities support improved service delivery, access to services, and increased community engagement toward an overall goal to improve academic success. They are designed to allow communities to tailor their approaches to individual community contexts, needs, goals and strengths.
Caring Communities have local leadership. Regular meetings provide a forum for information sharing, communication among neighborhood service providers, and opportunities to focus on specific programs, activities or goals that are important to the community. Involved Caring Community partners include residents, educators, local businesses, faith-based organizations and representatives from government with an interest in advocating for the community and collaborating on activities.
Currently, there is one active Caring Community in Multnomah County, the East County Caring Community (ECCC). Information appears below.
